- A physical alphabet and poster created from broken glass.
- Completed in 2018
- A university typography project.
Origin
This was a university typography project completed in 2018. Instead of drawing letters digitally, I wanted to see whether a complete alphabet could be built from a fragile physical material.
Material and method
I broke light-bulb glass onto black card, arranged each letterform by hand and photographed it separately. The uneven edges, gaps and differences between letters remained part of the alphabet.
The alphabet
The individual photographs were organised into a complete alphabet and used in a poster. There was no digital font file; the project was about material, composition and photographic consistency.

What remained
It is an early example of a method I still use: define a rule, work within it and allow the material to influence the result.
